Beside the Gallops, 11 September 2014Autumn is here and the kids’ bedtime is starting to get in the way of running in the evening. I suspect it is actually the other way round and my running is going to get in the way of their bedtime; time for a reprioritisation.

Anyway, I set off as the sun was disappearing. It’s strange being out at that time of night because the light plays tricks on the eyes and the levels of brightness can change quickly.

It’s not fun running at dusk (though it will be less fun running in the dark). I think I might have to start running along pavements rather than getting up onto the Downs. This’ll be a shame.

Anyway, keeping out of the woods to avoid running in the gloom, going round a field twice, dodging sheep, ducking bats and ignoring the spiders webs that wrapped themselves round my face, I managed 5.26km in 34 minutes.

Lewes did look nice at that time of the evening nestling in the Ouse valley.

With the godmother of child number one coming to stay and signing-up for the Downlands Challenge if I do, it was good to note that I felt quite strong.
