Wordle 905 6/6 (11 December 2023)

Warning post contains Wordle spoilers.

I love discovering new music, but with the whole of the streaming world out there it’s hard to know where to start. Then along came Wordle which generates, from my perspective, a random word. It occurred to me at some point during lockdown that I could use each day’s word as a ‘seed’ for a new Spotify radio. So I invented a set of rules to prevent me from gaming the word and to maximise my chances of hearing new music.

Here’s how you play Wordle Spotify Radio:

  • Step 1: solve Wordle… obviously…
  • Step 2: put the solution into Spotify search, and filter for songs
  • Step 3: this is the important step, no cheating: pick the first song the title of which is solely the Wordle word. No songs with two words, even if one of them matches Wordle, and no skipping to the second song with the Wordle word as the title.
  • Step 3: create a Spotify radio playlist (click the three dots by the song and click ‘go to radio’)
  • Step 4: play the list in the order it’s presented to you, until you can bear it no longer*

* two days ago the word generated the blandest electronic playlist you can imagine, I lasted two songs. But yesterday started with a classic (chain was the word, I’m sure you can guess the first song, and the full play list was largely eighties classics. Not much new, but a good playlist).

I’m going to capture the best playlists (from my perspective) here, largely as a record for myself to refind good playlists again. One thing that’s interesting is to find a friend willing to play the Wordle Spotify Radio game with. Even friends with similar music tastes will find the Spotify algorithm generates a different playlist, sometimes better, sometimes not.
