Sussex Emerald Moth, 5 July 2015Child #2 found this little beauty upstairs. A little googling suggested that it is the very rare Sussex Emerald Moth. So rare in fact that it only survives in a couple of places in the UK, way away from Lewes. It was well off it’s patch. We got very excited and I tweeted out (here I go, giving myself away).  I got a quick reply appearing to confirm our assessment.

As I wrote up this blog post I wanted to link to a little more information about the little beauty, and so did a bit more considered searching. And discovered that it is in fact the Common Emerald Moth instead; it has no red and white chequering along the wing fringe. Not far off it’s patch at all, but still very beautiful.
